Harvest 10/11/07Today working outside in the cool weather, I decided that the plants in the garden, except for the kale, were done growing and to make one last final harvest. It was quite a load of tomatoes, herbs, peppers, zucchini, cucumbers, eggplant and more. Besides the kale there is probably some more to harvest but this was the final big harvest for outside. I brought the planter frame in and will keep some of the same plants in it for a while and replace them soon with more hardy ones.
Also I need to gather some seeds from this year’s garden, like the birds are doing these days. However, for me, instead of eating the seeds, I can use them to grow new plants in the spring.
My sunroom is soon to be a greenhouse once my friend John is finished with his 12 five-pane custom made inserts for each door/window. They are finished and tomorrow if he places in the three layers of clear plastic they will be ready to insulate the room. They are being finished just in time since the weather is definitely dropping in temperature inside and out.
Hopefully the salad greens inside the GP Box will continue to grow and there will be no big break in the ability to harvest food.
The whole DMZ Garden Co-op, Marna, Dawn and I plus maybe my friend John and my son, plan on going to special tour and lunch at Growing Power Saturday. Marna and Dawn have never met Will and toured the place. Will and Growing Power is what inspired my garden effort, this Diary of the Worm and the DMZ. It will be like a home coming to go back there.
My friend Tegan, the wiki gnome, is busy working on the new domain, nonviolent worm that will soon be the home of this and other pages on the Graf Family mini-web sites.
So one harvest comes to the end as a new ones begin in the GP box, with the DMZ garden and new nonviolent worm domain.
