DiaryOfAWorm: Outside Is Inside

Today I brought a selection of pots of flowers, herbs and greens into the greenhouse, formerly known as the sunroom. Also today my friend John came over to take my small radiator heater for the sunroom to make room for one that I am getting with a digital control that will help us in testing the effectiveness of the five pane windows. I have not used the heater so far this year, so I saw no problem with him taking mine without my having purchased its replacement. However, tonight the temperature took a sudden drop and it is now 39 degrees outside. Despite having 10 of the 12 five-pane windows in the greenhouse, with no other heat source the temperature in this room started to drop below 50 degrees. I quickly opened the doors from the home office to the greenhouse and the temperature is now going back up. Fortunately the ground temperature of the GP box and the planters, due to the compost in the soil, is warmer and the plants, even the outside ones, will be okay.

My day was somewhat like the greenhouse was. But instead of the cold outside affecting my inside life it was the busyness of life that did it. Life, like the cold, took a sudden drop as my life sped up. I got so busy that my inner life was in danger. Fortunately before a meeting tonight at my house to discuss our plans to close the Marquette department of military science I was able to take a few moments to slow down, reflect and let go. It was just like my opening of the door from the heated office to the suddenly cold greenhouse — the moment of reflection brought with it warmth and comfort and raised the temperature of life. It might have been just a temporary fix but it bought me time, as does this moment of reflection writing this post, till tomorrow when I can slow down and heat up life even more.

In the time I took to open the door and write this brief reflection on my life today, the temperature in the greenhouse has risen 4 degrees and my thoughts have regained some warmth and have slowed down. Tomorrow I need to purchase that digital heater for the sunroom and to take some time for myself to clean up some of the mess in this office, catch up and slow down my life. Growing areas and life are like that; a sudden drop or rush outside can affect the inside. If I do not do these two things the plants and greens in the greenhouse will wilt away as my life inside will. Yes the Outside is Inside.
