DiaryOfAWorm: Growing Childlike

Matthew, Mr. Personality

Today I noticed that while I was gone for a few days the greens spouts in the GP box in the sunroom had grown. It is true, when you see something or someone each day it is hard to notice growth, but go away for a while and you can see it. It will be the same with my grand nephew. When I was out East at my mother-in-law’s funeral I saw him in person for the first time. I had seen pictures of him when he was born 2 months ago, but he had a lot more personality when I saw him last weekend. I am sure that will be more true the next time I see him. Like the greens he will grow gradually. Since I am two generations ahead of him I do not know how much I will see his growth, but what I do observe I will deeply appreciate. For I think the best way to be childlike to enter the Kingdom of God is to observe a child. The same thing can be said about being a Growing Power person — observe the growing power of a garden inside a box or outside in the yard, and you will learn about Growing Power.

However, the older one becomes, the harder it is to be childlike. As a person becomes an adult they loose their imagination, at least in our culture. Also a person as they grow starts labeling or stereotyping everything rather than enjoying the mystery of the creature. To be childlike becomes a little easier when one is very old, if the person is not hardened of heart. You start to loose some of the “education” and “smarts”, and start looking at things with awe, gratitude and mystery.

It is the same with the plants in the GP box or in the GP garden. Plants sprout freely, but as they grow become more dependent on having good soil, water and sun and being free of bugs and disease. If a plant matures healthy, like a human, it eventually dies, only to become waste for a new cycle of growth.

Today I was cleaning out the sprayer I used to mix tea and water for spraying plants in the sunroom and in the house. Since the tea I had put in the sprayer came from the rain barrels outside it had some leaves in the bottom. As I was cleaning it out in the bathtub I noticed a very small wiggling worm that had survived the water and was wiggling around in the tub. It was so small and wiggly that I had a hard time picking it up. Finally I did and put in the GP box so it could find its way down in the box and join the rest of the worms who are busy eating and casting away in the compost. This young worm probably was hatched in the spray container and probably would have washed down the drain if it had not been so wiggly. Like a child it was moving around till he got noticed and cared for by an adult. So while adults need to be childlike I guess children need adults.
