Kale and Herbs

The snow today is deeper than expected. The snow this year is more than expected. The snow will melt and run deep into the ground making it more fertile for next year’s crop. Snow and rainwater is life giving, full of living organisms not of chemicals.

Today I was reading in the book “Earth Democracy” by Vandana Shiva how so much of the food we eat and export in the USA is full of unhealthy chemicals. Some countries have tried to keep this unhealthy food from its people but the USA has been dominant in forcing its unhealthy ways of eating on the world. Growing Renewable Affordable Food (GRAF) is needed everywhere in the world, but most especially in the USA — the biggest promoter of chemically produced food.

I try to buy and cook healthy food but it is difficult. Trying to avoid food from China and chemically enhanced food while purchasing and cooking affordable, organic food is very hard. Organic food, for the most part, is expensive, and lots of it that is affordable is fruits and vegetables that our eating habits do not value sometimes as much as starch and meat items. But we can try, and having a Growing Power Home Garden helps.

A reporter from the newspaper who is writing an article about the homicides in Milwaukee in 2007 has called me about the Mothers Against Gun Violence (MAGV) Memorial to 2007 Homicide Victims wiki web page that I help to update. During the course of the conversation I mentioned how those pages, like these, are on a “wiki” web site. He asked me what “wiki” meant. I explained to him that it was a simple, easy-to-use way of creating and updating web sites, thus making the power of the web available for ordinary persons like Marna of MAGV. Then I referred him to Godsil and Tegan, two of the founders of the Milwaukee Renaissance. Tonight when he called me back he said he had spoken to both persons and had an understanding of wiki web pages. Thinking about this and the above reflection, I probably should have said that a wiki web page was like a natural organic one as opposed to most web pages that use some computer language to create. Wiki is the affordable, organic use of the power of the web. Milwaukee, thanks to the Milwaukee Renaissance is way ahead of other cities in harnessing the power of the web in an affordable way for all. It is like a lot of good snow and rain have fallen on us enriching our brainpower. The wiki is brain food.
