DiaryOfAWorm: GP Magic Show

From Waste

Comes Compost,
Which, with the help of worms becomes

Castings for the seeds

That Grow into Food

The four pictures above tell the story in the Uncle Bob’s GP Magic Show we did this morning for some of the students at Robert Lafollette grade school across the street from the DMZ garden. Of course, missing from the pictures are the empty box of organic vegetables that served as the “time machine”, the worms we added to the compost, or the coir we added to the castings.

Also not shown in the pictures is calling castings “worm poop”, and the magic words of ‘Wormamakeadirta’ that the children yelled out during the transformation. But the children got the point that waste, with the help of worms and growing power, can be transformed into healthy plants. After the presentation by Marna, Dawn and me, we asked the children how many were going to help us in the DMZ community garden. Nearly all hands went up. The Uncle Bob’s GP Magic Show is really just about being aware of the mystery and wonder of nature.
