Punxsutawney Phil
Today is Groundhog Day. The legend is that if the groundhog sees his shadow today there will be six more weeks of winter, and if not, there will be an early spring. Punxsutawney Phil, the most famous of the many groundhogs observed today, did see his shadow, but many others did not.
In the movie Groundhog Day a newsman covering Punxsutawney Phil on Feb. 2nd finds himself repeating the same day over and over again until he reforms his life and gets it right. Then the time loop ends and he moves on with his life a renewed person.
I had my own ground hog day experience today. Today I called a computer technician to once again try to repair my printer and computer wireless connection. In a call to a technician last week, after a long discussion, we had got the printer working wirelessly with the computer. However, at the end of last week I called again to get the wireless scanner operation working again. After two days and many hours of talking and watching the technicians operate my computer remotely from the Philippines or wherever, I was not able to wirelessly scan but also lost the printing capacity I had obtained last week. I dared to call again today and after hours and hours of repeatedly trying to connect the printer wireless to the computer it happened. I was back to where I was a week ago. Back to where I was when I started a week ago I was given the choice of trying some more to get the scanner working or getting a new all-in-one printer. Reluctantly, I accepted the new one, since my warranty would soon be up and technical support would cost me big time. The technician said he would call me when the new printer came and talk me through the connection. So after repeating and repeating attempting the wireless connection I will soon be back to starting all over again, like I did nearly a year ago.
Frustrated from this Groundhog Day experience a conversation was placed on me tonight from someone who repeatedly said the same thing over and over again. I probably was not the best person for this person to talk with today. But I did my best.
Maybe like the person in the Groundhog Day movie, if I do the same thing over and over again, be it with the computer or talking with someone, I will get it right and be able to move on from Groundhog Day.
