President Trump, with a Republican House and Senate, is proposing in the 2018 budget moving 54 Billion dollars from nonmilitary spending to military spending.
President Obama, with a Democrat House and Senate in 2009 asked for and received $83.4 billion in supplemental funding for defense. In FY 2010 Obama Defense budget he asked for and received a record setting $538 billion, not including the added cost of the wars. This exceeded the Reagan peak of $517 billion in 2010 dollars. With a Democratic House and Senate he repeated this in 2010, a supplemental appropriations and record setting budget for military spending.

I remembered these supplemental military defense bills of 2009 and 2010 since my Congressional representative, Democrat Rep. Moore, made a complete turn around and voted for these supplementary and actual defense bills.

Now it is our Senator, Tammy Baldwin, who is advocating and fighting for more military spending. Not only did she vote for the 2017 billion defense budget but she fought for more money in the bill for Lockheed Martin to build more U.S. Navy Littoral Combat Ships. She is now the lead advocate, by her own statement, for basing the F-35 fighter jet, the most expensive weapon in history and the most expensive to operate at Truax field in Madison.

Again it is not Republican or Democrat, Trump or Obama that has gone crazy on weapons of destruction and killing it is the System. We need to struggle against militarism in all its form be it in military budgets of Republicans or Democrats or the militarization of education at Marquette University or UW-MADSON. It is the “dirty, rotten, filthy system.”
